Very good copy of the first edition of these interesting, illustrated letters, written from the camp in Turkey. Hamley (1824-1893) was Lieutenant-Colonel in November 1855, and received the Crimean medal with four clasps, the Sardinian and the Turkish Medjidiyya, before being appointed as a Professor of military history at Sandhurst College.

8vo. xvi, 339, 16 [advertisement] pp. with one folding map, 9 lithographs of which 4 are chromolithographs including 1 folding; occasional light spotting; booklabel to upper pastedown and large library label to upper fly-leaf (Norfolk and Norwich Library). Red publisher’s cloth blind stamped, spine lettered in gilt; spine faded, joints splitting.
