    Lewis’s illustrations of Constantinople 97265
    made during a residence in that city &c. in the years 1835-6. Arranged and drawn on stone from the original sketches of Coke Smyth.

    One of the most successful depictions of Constantinople. It is surprising that Lewis, who had travelled extensively in the Levant did not use his own sketches but certainly employing Smyth’s sketches has resulted in a very successful book.

    First edition. Folio. Lithographed title vignette, engraved dedication and 27 later hand-coloured lithographed plates on 25 leaves, loose in modern red morocco-backed box.
